I want a Pink Zune dot com started out as a goof. My goal was to get one of the 100 pink Zunes that the Zune team had cleverly hidden(which I got btw). I figured the quest would be good for a few months of fun but sure enough it turned into something much bigger. A few months back I decided the site needed a new look and a new domain. It took some time (and quite a few designs) but I finally launched my new site, I HAVE A ZUNE.
To celebrate the launch of my new site I’m giving away 3 Zune from Zune Originals. All you have to do is comment over at I HAVE A ZUNE.

Adam over at Zune Thoughts pointed me towards a hack that allows you to add any background you want to the Zune software. I tried out a few backgrounds and what is clear to me is that not just any background will look good but it is great to have the option. I’m sure there are users out there right now working some nice alternatives.
Enjoy!

If you’ve been looking for a Zune 80 recently, let me tell you something you already know. You can’t find them. If you believe Zune Scene then the shortage is a result of… uhh… wire-or-something*? The Microsoft story is that the demand has exceeded their expectations but that more are on the way. Personally, I find it incredibly hard to believe that some aspect of the design (on a product they’ve been working on for a year) is where the hang up is. I think the reviews being so good and the device just looking so hot has resulted less supply then demand.
Still don’t believe me? Check out a little website called ebay. Have you heard of it? Zune 80’s are selling for around $400 on ebay. It looks like scarcity has upped the price of the Zune 80 by $150. I’m glad the Zune 80 is popular but Microsoft really should have made more of them.
*Sorry for the technical lingo.

Zune Originals has the best looking packaging of any product I’ve purchased in recent memory. Everything is white and gold and just looks so…custom. You also get a small cloth bag(close up here). If you order a Zune with artist series customization you also get a poster with your customization on it. Zune Originals feels like an incredible value in several ways. First, you get the custom art. Second, the shipping is impressively fast considering the volume I’m sure they are dealing with. I ordered my unit on Wednesday and got it on Saturday. Third, the packaging is fit for a device that costs twice as much. Trust me. The unboxing is an experience in itself.
Now we just have to wait until early December for a custom Zune 80.
Here are some pictures of the unboxing and a close up on the custom work. I’ve never seen such precise laser etching.

Major Nelson is celebrating the 5 year anniversary of Xbox Live. His guest is the guy who got the Xbox Live ball rolling is none other then J “Don’t call me Jay” Allard. Anyone who wonders about the Zunes future should listen up because J hands out hints about like I hand out round house kicks… to orphans… I’m an awful role model. Anyway give it a listen.

I got an email late last night that my Zune Originals order has shipped. I placed the order on Tuesday morning so - let me get my calculator out - that looks like a 36 hour turnaround time at the factory. I don’t think I have to tell you that is pretty impressive. Currently the estimated delivery date is November 19th so that puts from order to delivery at around 5 business days. What a world we live in.
Anyone else heard from Zune Originals?

I’m going to go off on a tangent here for a moment. About a year ago I was reading a Zune review over at Ars. It was a fair review with an overall positive tone. In the review the author mentioned that he felt the negative press around the Zune (30) was unwarranted. I agreed and a few weeks later I want a Pink Zune dot com was born. How about that?
Anyway. I love Ars. They are fair and do some of the best in-depth reviews of any tech publication out there. In my humble opinion the guys over at Ars are the unsung heroes of product reviewers.
The Ars team has once again brought their A-game to the new Zune review. They test it to an extent that I haven’t seen in ANY review. Did you want to know the nitty gritty on TV recording? Interested in some additional info around wireless sync? Ars has it.

So by now everyone knows that the Citron Zune was a ship-gift and therefore only given to Zune team members. But maybe what you didn’t know is that it has a 16gb capacity. This isn’t that important of a fact right now but it should give us an idea of the upgrade cycle. The same form factor can accommodate 16gb of flashie goodness.
At first I didn’t use my Zune 8 very much but I’ve fallen in love with its size. Personally I’d be more then willing to pay extra for a 16gb capacity.
